Australia's biggest dairy co-operative has become the second major milk processor to announce an opening milk price way lower than last season.
Tatura Milk this week announced a price of about 28 /litre, and yesterday Murray Goulburn released its opening price estimated at about 26 to 27 /litre.
The milk companies use complex pricing structures based on butterfat and protein and milk flow at differing times of the year.
Murray Goulburn said its cents per litre price could not be accurately compared to Tatura's.
